What happened: PM JANMAN progress update in Rajya Sabha

Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Durgadas Uikey informed the Rajya Sabha about the goals and implementation progress of Pradhan Mantri Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM JANMAN) for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) communities. PM JANMAN aims to provide basic facilities to improve socio-economic conditions of PVTGs, with service coverage across housing, drinking water, education, health and nutrition, road and telecom connectivity, electrification, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.

The government stated that PM JANMAN targets 75 PVTG communities residing in 18 States and one Union Territory, including Gujarat.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs reported that the objectives of PM JANMAN are being implemented through 11 interventions executed by 9-line Ministries.

The Ministry also said that benefits under PM JANMAN, as of 30.06.2026, are covered in scheme-wise and state-wise details provided in Annexure I. The scheme list includes sector programmes such as PMAY-G (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Gramin), PMGSY (Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana), JJM (Jal Jeevan Mission), NRHM (National Rural Health Mission), POSHAN 2.0 (National Nutrition Mission 2.0), and SSA (Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan).

The Annexure I details reported progress indicators such as the number of houses sanctioned and completed, roads sanctioned and completed, MMUs operational, and AWCs operational. (MMU here is used as operational unit in the government’s health/nutrition delivery chain; AWC refers to Anganwadi Centre.)
