What happened: Prime Minister’s World Elephant Day message on India’s elephant conservation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a public statement on World Elephant Day, framing elephants as part of India’s ecological heritage and linking India’s conservation efforts to habitat protection.
In the statement, the Prime Minister highlighted the following points:
India hosts over 60% of the world’s wild Asian elephants (wild population share claim).
India has 33 Elephant Reserves that provide elephant habitats and support long-term conservation.
The Prime Minister also expressed pride in forest personnel, scientists, veterinarians, mahouts, and local communities, described as integral to elephant conservation efforts.
