What happened: Piyush Goyal’s message at Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav
Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal urged Indian businesses and citizens to adopt fair trading practices, promote recycling and reuse, and push India toward a circular economy (an economic model that reduces waste by keeping materials in use). He delivered the remarks at the inaugural ceremony of the Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.
Piyush Goyal also stressed global market access for Indian products and services. He said Indian industry and businesses receive preferential access through nine free trade agreements (FTAs) and highlighted India’s growing global economic engagement.
The Minister emphasised the role of Indian MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) and workers across sectors—employees, fishermen, farmers, entrepreneurs, and the services sector—in taking Indian goods and services to global markets. He called for collective efforts to strengthen the “Make in India” brand by respecting India’s quality, design capabilities, and brand identity.
Piyush Goyal linked economic size and growth plans with export ambitions. He said India’s economic size is around $4 trillion and described an opportunity as India works toward a $30 trillion economy by 2047. He also cited record export performance and growth momentum.
On export numbers, Piyush Goyal stated (as government-cited figures) that:
