What happened: IN-SPACe PPP framework for Earth Observation constellations + first approved commercial constellation
The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe), under the Department of Space, has formulated a Public Private Partnership (PPP) framework for Earth Observation (EO) satellite constellations. The PPP framework enables Non-Government Entities (NGEs)—private industry, start-ups, and, where relevant, academic and research institutions—to design, build, own, and operate EO satellite constellations on an end-to-end basis. IN-SPACe has also approved and signed an agreement for India’s first indigenous, fully commercial EO constellation under the PPP model with a private consortium named Allied Orbits Private Limited.
