Background and earlier position: cooperatives and digital urban mobility
Indian cities depend on multiple transport modes: public transport, walking, cycling, and private vehicles. App-based ride-hailing services have become an important part of urban mobility by improving last-mile connectivity and providing flexible travel options.
Policy emphasis has grown on making digital mobility more inclusive, more transparent, and more beneficial for service providers. The Ministry of Cooperation promotes cooperative-based business models in urban mobility, focusing on technology-backed services with democratic ownership.
