What happened (flash floods in Nepal with cross-border implications)
The Central Government is monitoring the disaster situation after flash floods in Nepal. Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke with the Chief Ministers of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh regarding the Nepal disaster.
According to the Central Water Commission (CWC) advisory and media reports mentioned by the Government of India, a sudden rise in river water level in Nepal’s Trishuli river at Furke Khola (around 160 km from the Indian border) has been reported. The reported cause includes suspected flash flood/GLOF (flash floods from sudden glacial lake outburst type conditions) activity near the Nepal–China border.
The Government of India expects the flood impact to travel downstream in India via the Gandak river.
