What happened: second PRIP application call (₹5,000 crore) for Pharma and MedTech R&D
The Department of Pharmaceuticals (DoP), Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, announced the second call for applications under the Promotion of Research and Innovation in Pharma & MedTech (PRIP) Scheme. The scheme has a financial outlay of ₹ 5,000 crore and supports startups, MSMEs, and large companies to move innovation forward along the R&D value chain.
The PRIP application window on the PRIP portal is scheduled to open by mid-September. Applicants who had submitted projects under PRIP Round 1 have been asked not to resubmit the same project.
Application tracks and TRL eligibility (what projects can apply)
PRIP accepts projects aligned to priority areas and differentiated by Technology Readiness Level (TRL)—a scale that measures how close a technology is to real-world use. PRIP uses two tracks:
Track 1: Early-stage support (startups/MSMEs to reach higher TRLs up to TRL 5)
