What happened: India’s Prime Minister’s key positions at the 26th SCO summit (Bishkek, Aug 31–Sep 1, 2026)
Prime Minister Narendra Modi participated in the 26th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek, Kyrgyz Republic, held between August 31 and September 01, 2026. The meeting also marked SCO’s 25th anniversary, with leaders discussing how SCO can strengthen peace, security, stability and prosperity in the region.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi thanked the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, H.E. Mr. Sadyr Zhaparov, for hospitality. Prime Minister Modi said the summit’s 25th anniversary was an opportunity to lay a roadmap for the next 25 years and to build on SCO’s tradition of dialogue and cooperation.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s earlier SCO vision of Security, Connectivity and Opportunity and argued that SCO should deliver concrete outcomes across these three pillars.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s position that conflicts cannot be resolved on the battlefield and that dialogue and diplomacy are the way forward. Prime Minister Modi also called terrorism a grave threat and urged committed action to dismantle the terror ecosystem, stressing no double standards in the fight against terrorism.
Prime Minister Modi highlighted that security in the Eurasia region is linked to peace and stability in Afghanistan and pointed to India’s development and humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
