What happened

A governance and capacity gap persists at India’s Centre of Excellence (CoE): the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not appointed a dedicated sports science head for about 18 months.

Background and earlier position

BCCI has claimed that it is building performance support systems for the ecosystem around national teams and the CoE’s training outcomes. In such ecosystems, sports science leadership is needed to coordinate injury management, training monitoring, and rehabilitation processes.

What changed now

The CoE still lacks a filled sports science head position, so coordination across injury management, training monitoring, and rehabilitation remains weaker than what a fully staffed sports science function would enable.
