What happened: CWRC orders a quantified Cauvery release by Karnataka
The Cauvery Water Regulation Committee (CWRC) met in Delhi and directed Karnataka to release Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu with a defined total volume and daily flow rate.
CWRC’s directive to Karnataka included the following operational points:
- Time window: release 4 tmcft of Cauvery water over 15 days.
- Flow rate: maintain a release of 3,500 cusecs per day.
- Start time and verification: ensure the 3,500 cusecs flow at the Biligundlu measuring gauge on the Karnataka–Tamil Nadu inter-State boundary starting Wednesday morning.
