What happened: Industrial output accelerated in June 2026
India’s industrial output accelerated in June 2026. The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation released official data showing the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) grew 7.3% in June 2026, described as the fastest pace since July 2024. The June figure was higher than 5.1% growth in May 2026.
Sector-wise pattern: Manufacturing led; electricity and gas supply also improved
Manufacturing output grew faster in June 2026. The manufacturing component of IIP grew 7.8% in June compared with 5.5% in May 2026.
Electricity and gas supply also strengthened. Electricity and gas supply grew to about 10.6% in June (from 9.9% in May). The improvement is linked to base effects, because the electricity and gas supply sector had contracted in the previous year.
Capital goods growth strengthened to about 14.2% in June versus a much lower rate a year earlier.
