Mamata Banerjee publicly defended Abhishek Banerjee, her nephew and the Trinamool Congress general secretary, saying he is still fighting despite facing multiple cases. The statement matters because it signals continued leadership backing for a senior party functionary at a time of visible internal strain in the Trinamool Congress.
In a live social media address, Mamata Banerjee said critics were using Abhishek Banerjee as a pretext and alleged that central agencies were being used to weaken the Opposition. She also said that he did not flee the battle and that any mistake he may have made should be forgiven.
