Congress leaders criticised the Narendra Modi government for rising price pressures and said India was moving toward an economic crisis. Their criticism was based on recent wholesale inflation and retail inflation figures, which they used to question the government’s handling of the economy.

Mallikarjun Kharge said the government had failed to manage the economy. He referred to a contrast between a May appeal to save and later levies that, in his words, reduced public savings. He cited wholesale inflation at 9.87%, retail inflation at 4.4%, and food inflation at 5.49%.
