What happened: Total Chess launches a new world tour in chess
Total Chess launched the Total Chess World Championship Tour, adding a new branded series of high-level chess events. The plan begins with a pilot leg and moves to a full multi-leg tour in the next year.
The pilot leg is scheduled in Budapest from Nov 10–21 and features a 24-player field. The pilot event uses three formats—classical, rapid, and blitz.
The pilot event highlights marquee participation including world No. 1 Magnus Carlsen. Indian players named for the event include Arjun Erigaisi and the Chennai siblings R. Praggnanandhaa and R. Vaishali.
Background: how chess tournaments differentiate formats using time controls
In elite chess, tournament categories are linked to time control. Classical chess is generally understood as a slower time control that supports deeper calculation. Rapid and blitz are faster categories that emphasize speed and quick decision-making under time pressure.
