What happened at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) on 27 August

Students protesting at Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) since 24 August accused JMI administration of irregularities in the admission process and alleged that JMI administration cleared the protest site on 27 August.

JMI spokesperson said security personnel asked students to clear the protest area because the protest was taking place outside a designated protest zone created after a High Court order. Students’ representatives alleged that JMI administration and security surrounded protesters near the central canteen, lifted them, and snatched phones to prevent recording.

After the incident on 27 August night, 4 students received suspension notices: one student suspended for 10 days, two students suspended for 7 days, and one student suspended for 3 days.
