What happened
Bombay High Court directed social media platforms to remove deepfake and AI-generated videos that allegedly link Union Minister Nitin Gadkari to decisions connected with the Ethanol Blending Programme (EBP). Bombay High Court treated the disputed content as defamatory and issued deletion directions for the videos identified in Nitin Gadkari’s lawsuit.
Bombay High Court also directed social media platforms to remove similar future content if Nitin Gadkari brings such additional content to the Court’s attention in the ongoing proceedings.
Claims in Nitin Gadkari’s lawsuit
Nitin Gadkari’s lawsuit alleged that unknown users created and circulated videos falsely portraying Nitin Gadkari as responsible for decisions related to ethanol blending under the EBP.
Nitin Gadkari’s lawsuit also alleged claims suggesting undue financial benefits for Nitin Gadkari and his family from the EBP, implying corruption and misuse of office.
