Colombia’s president-elect Abelardo de la Espriella announced that Colombia will break diplomatic ties with Cuba and Nicaragua after he takes office on August 7. He also announced plans to close 15 consulates and 14 embassies across several countries, including Algeria, Barbados, Ethiopia, Haiti, Hungary, Senegal, and South Africa.
Abelardo de la Espriella described the move as removing relationships with “tyrannies,” while also adding a limitation: Colombia would not sever relations with every other country.
