What happened: India summoned Ukraine’s Ambassador over a Black Sea ship attack
India’s Ministry of External Affairs summoned Ukraine’s Ambassador, Oleksandr Polishchuk, to convey India’s “serious concerns” about a ship attack reported to have happened on 18 July in the Black Sea. The attack was reported to have resulted in the death of an Indian seafarer.
In the Ministry’s press note, the Ministry: condemned attacks on commercial shipping, linking such attacks to risks for maritime navigation, freedom of navigation, and international commerceasked the Ambassador to convey India’s strong concerns about targeting commercial vesselsreiterated that endangering civilian seafarers is unacceptable
Ukraine’s response in the diplomatic channel
Ukraine’s Embassy responded that Ukraine’s foreign minister sent a condolence letter to India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. The Embassy also stressed that preventive warnings in the Black Sea should trigger immediate responses to reduce security risks linked to Russia’s military operations.
