Explainer: What lifting India’s emergency natural-gas curbs means after the West Asia crisis

The government lifted emergency restrictions on natural-gas supply that had been imposed during the West Asia crisis.

The stated reason was improved conditions following ceasefire and negotiations, and the resumption of sea traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, which supports energy supply continuity.

In a notification amending the Natural Gas (Supply Regulation) Order, 2026, the government removed provisions that had prioritized sales of domestically produced gas and LNG.
