The Badminton Association of India has said that venue problems exposed during the India Open at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi have been addressed before the World Championships scheduled in New Delhi from August 17 to 23. The issue matters because the same arena will host a much larger international event, and the India Open worked as a practical test of the venue’s preparedness.
What went wrong during the India Open
The India Open drew complaints about poor air quality, cleanliness lapses, and match disruptions. A monkey entered the playing area, and bird droppings also affected play, showing weaknesses in venue sealing, sanitation, and operational supervision.
What the Badminton Association of India says has changed
Badminton Association of India general secretary Sanjay Mishra said corrective steps have been taken. He said summer air-quality conditions have improved, measures are being taken to stop birds from entering the arena, and additional steps are being taken to prevent monkeys from getting into the main space.
According to Sanjay Mishra, the venue has received extra doors, guard stations, and changes to ceilings. The Badminton Association of India also says sanitation will be upgraded and toilets will be brought to top standards.
