Corporate social responsibility spending by Indian companies increased in FY25, according to data compiled by Fulcrum from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. The spending trend matters for UPSC because it links corporate governance, social development, and compliance-led welfare finance.
What the data show
The FY25 data show higher corporate social responsibility spending than in the previous year. The data also show that cumulative corporate social responsibility investment over the past decade crossed a large threshold, making the spending stream a structural part of social-sector funding.
The data show 72,233 corporate social responsibility projects implemented nationwide, with an average project cost of ₹56.47 lakh. Spending covered education, skilling, health, sanitation, and environmental work.
The data show that the top 10 companies accounted for 17% of total corporate social responsibility expenditure, with Reliance Industries and HDFC Bank among the leading spenders.
