What happened
India’s pharmaceutical sector is being urged to accelerate the use of non-animal testing models in drug development. Animal tests often fail to predict how compounds behave in humans, which contributes to high attrition in development and slows the path from discovery to approved treatment.
Why the issue matters
Only about 10-14% of drug candidates entering phase I trials eventually win approval. That low success rate makes better screening methods important for lowering costs, reducing delays, and improving access to treatments.
