What happened
DMK president and former Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and CPI leader R. Mutharasan urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to convene an all-party meeting over the Cauvery water dispute.
M.K. Stalin argued that only a legal approach can resolve Karnataka’s refusal to release Tamil Nadu’s share of Cauvery waters. Stalin also stated that political talks have not worked.
M.K. Stalin claimed Karnataka initially invited C. Joseph Vijay for the issue and later asked Vijay not to visit, while Karnataka scheduled an all-party meeting on August 2.
R. Mutharasan, speaking in Tiruchi, urged that representatives of farmers’ associations be invited to the all-party meeting to help build consensus. R. Mutharasan also stated that Karnataka parties are presenting a united front on Cauvery.
