What happened: Stalin urges Vijay to reconsider talks with Karnataka

M.K. Stalin urged Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay to reconsider a proposed visit to Karnataka for talks with the Karnataka government on Tamil Nadu’s claims to Cauvery water rights.

Stalin argued that Karnataka’s position, including Karnataka’s move to build the Mekedatu dam at a location referenced in the Cauvery dispute, violates the Supreme Court’s final verdict. Stalin also said that if Karnataka refuses to release water as required, the refusal would amount to contempt of court.

Stalin questioned whether the proposed talks are aimed at substantive outcomes on water release or mainly meant to create a political impression that Tamil Nadu’s leadership is trying to resolve the issue.
