What happened: Sergio Gor’s meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the Pax Silica request

U.S. Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor met Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and discussed bilateral relations, trade, and investment. Gor urged Bangladesh to join the U.S.-led Pax Silica initiative.

The United States described Pax Silica as part of a broader global economic security effort focused on critical minerals, energy, semiconductors, and AI infrastructure.

Sergio Gor said Pax Silica would help reduce dependence on Chinese technology dominance. Alongside economic-security priorities, Bangladesh and the United States discussed regional cooperation and other mutual interests.

After the meeting, the United States revised its travel advisory for Bangladesh. Sergio Gor also expressed confidence in Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership and stated that stability had returned under her tenure.
