Sergio Gor visited Bangladesh for his first trip in his capacity as the Trump administration’s Special Envoy to South and Central Asia.
Sergio Gor, along with U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T. Christensen, travelled to Chittagong where they visited Rohingya refugee camps.
Background and earlier position
Rohingya refugees from Myanmar have been residing for years in refugee camps in Bangladesh, including camps in and around the Chittagong region. High-level diplomatic visits to such areas typically aim at first-hand understanding of humanitarian conditions and camp-level realities.
