What happened: Russia’s Kyiv strike and Ukraine’s stated Patriot-interceptor shortage
Russia launched a heavy early-morning ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. Nine deaths were reported, and multiple waves of explosions were reported around the city.
Russia’s reported strike used a mix of ballistic missiles and drones. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine had run out of interceptor missiles for the U.S. Patriot system during the raid window.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also stated that only one of 27 ballistic missiles was intercepted because Patriot interceptor missiles were not available.
