What happened: reported strikes and casualty pattern
Ukraine reportedly attacked the petroleum hub of Nizhnekamsk in Russia’s Tatarstan region. Reporting attributes the following outcomes to the attack:
Deaths: 13 people were killed, including a child. Injuries: about 75 people were injured. Reported target: Ukrainian forces reportedly struck the TANECO oil refinery, triggering a fire. Reported nature of assault: the city faced a major drone assault targeting both industrial and civilian sites.
Officials reported that one drone hit a hostel in Nizhnekamsk. That hostel hit accounted for nine deaths, and reporting also states that citizens of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan were among the dead. Uzbekistan’s consular office reported seven Uzbek nationals among those deaths.
Tatarstan declared a day of mourning after the deaths.
In another part of the conflict, a Russian glide bomb struck Zaporizhzhia in southern Ukraine, injuring 24 people.
