What happened (Supreme Court agrees to hear the acquittal challenge)

The Supreme Court agreed to consider a petition challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s acquittal of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, the Dera Sacha Sauda chief, in a 2002 journalist murder case.

The Supreme Court listed the matter for final hearing during the week beginning November 16.

The petition was filed by Aridaman, identified in the news report as the slain journalist’s son.

During the proceedings, the defence argued that the State had not filed an appeal against the High Court’s acquittal.
