What happened
Delhi’s first women’s police station at Sabzi Mandi has completed its first month of operation and is preparing to file its first charge-sheet in a rape and POCSO matter. The station is intended to provide faster and more focused handling of crimes against women, with women officers expected to create a more sensitive environment for complainants.
What the first month shows
The station mostly received complaints related to marital discord, domestic violence, and dowry. It also took over cases earlier handled by the Crime Against Women (CAW) cell, and some of those matters were shifted to the new station for investigation and follow-up.
Officials said many complaints are still at the preliminary inquiry stage and require counselling. The station does not yet have trained counsellors of its own and depends partly on experience and support from the Delhi Commission for Women.
