The National Medical Commission has decided to stop processing routine requests for faculty-eligibility determination for appointment, promotion, or designation to teaching posts in medical institutions. The change matters because it shifts the first-level decision from the National Medical Commission to the appointing authority, medical institution, university, or other competent authority.
The Post Graduate Medical Education Board will now intervene only in more complicated cases, and such cases must be referred through an institution with a fee of ₹25,000. The move is meant to make the eligibility process more local and reduce routine applications to the central regulator.
