What happened
Congress leaders have escalated allegations of embezzlement of donations and offerings linked to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust in Ayodhya. Senior leaders held coordinated press conferences across India and demanded a Supreme Court-monitored investigation.
K.C. Venugopal questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the alleged theft of offerings and donations, and asked who should be held responsible. He also alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad had collected donations in the name of the Ram Mandir over several years.
UPSC may frame the issue around transparency in trust governance, judicial monitoring of evidence, and the limits of political accountability when allegations concern a religious institution and public donations.
