The Enforcement Directorate said the value of properties attached, seized, or frozen in the Mahadev Online betting investigation has risen to about ₹3,800 crore. The latest action is a provisional attachment order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 against businessman Vikas Garg, his family members, and entities controlled by him, covering assets worth about ₹940.77 crore.
The case is important for UPSC because it combines money laundering, illegal online betting, asset tracing, and cross-border investigation. The Enforcement Directorate said earlier attachments, seizures, and freezing in the same matter had already covered assets worth about ₹2,825 crore, including foreign assets.
What the Enforcement Directorate said now
The provisional attachment order covers residential properties, land parcels, equity shares, and other securities. The Enforcement Directorate linked these assets to an ongoing investigation into alleged illegal betting operations connected to the Mahadev Online app.
According to the Enforcement Directorate, the present attachment was issued against Vikas Garg, his family members, and entities controlled by him. The agency said the cumulative value of attached, seized, or frozen properties in the case has now risen to roughly ₹3,800 crore.
