What happened: Delhi school safety audit flagged child-safety gaps

A Delhi school audit used a Student Safety Checklist to identify safety gaps affecting children. The audit inspected 1,677 schools and reported that nearly 46% of inspected schools were flagged for safety deficiencies under the checklist.

The audit reported that 774 schools were flagged for deficiencies. The checklist assessed physical safety, emotional safety, social safety, emergency safety, and cyber safety.

The audit also reported flagged-school counts across school categories, including government, private and aided schools, and indicated that private schools accounted for a larger share of deficiencies.

Background and earlier position: audit drive started after a review meeting

The Delhi audit drive was launched after a review meeting held on 6 July. The audit is planned as a city-wide exercise to inspect schools across Delhi rather than only a small subset.
