What happened in Kolkata during NEET question-paper leak protests
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari said violence during protests against the NEET question-paper leak in Kolkata occurred on Friday. Suvendu Adhikari attributed the violence to Islamic fundamentalists and also alleged possible backing from foreign forces. Kolkata police dispersed protestors using baton charges and tear gas shells.
Kolkata police arrested 14 persons and produced them in court for a two-day remand.
Suvendu Adhikari also argued that arrests in Kolkata were made even though protesters in other parts of India did not face registered cases, and he claimed that journalists were assaulted. Suvendu Adhikari said that in seven cases he referred to, six cases were filed by journalists.
Suvendu Adhikari claimed around 70 individuals were identified as involved. He asserted that the identified persons were not students and were Islamic fundamentalists. Suvendu Adhikari added that investigators were probing whether foreign forces were behind the group.
