What happened (Kolkata violence during NEET protest)
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari alleged that Islamic fundamentalists, possibly backed by foreign forces, were behind violence during protests in Kolkata against a NEET examination paper leak.
Adhikari stated that protesters clashed with police. Adhikari also stated that security measures included baton charges and use of tear gas shells.
Police arrested 14 people. Adhikari stated that the accused were produced before a city court and remanded for two days in police custody.
Adhikari claimed that arrests were made in Kolkata while cases against protesters across India were not registered, and Adhikari asserted that some cases were filed by journalists who were assaulted.
Adhikari reiterated that the protests had nothing to do with the NEET paper leak itself. Adhikari said about 70 identified persons were involved and Adhikari claimed those persons were not linked to the NEET protest movement.
