What happened: RBI reported $72.85 billion generated under the Reserve Bank Swap facility (as of Aug 21, 2026)
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) stated that, as of August 21, 2026, foreign exchange worth $72.85 billion has been generated under the Reserve Bank Swap facility using three capital-flow routes: FCNR(B) deposits, External Commercial Borrowings (ECBs) and Overseas Foreign Currency Borrowings (OFCBs).
RBI reported the following channel-wise breakdown of forex inflows (as reported by authorised dealer banks to the RBI) up to August 21, 2026:
• $64.40 billion via FCNR(B) deposits • $4.86 billion via OFCBs • $2.59 billion via ECBs
Background and earlier position: swap-linked forex reporting through specific channels
RBI’s reporting in this case differentiates between forex sources. FCNR(B) deposits, OFCBs and ECBs are presented as separate routes through which foreign-currency funds can flow and then be reflected in RBI-tracked swap-related forex generation.
