What happened: India–Japan defence talks in New Delhi
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks in New Delhi with Japan’s defence minister Shinjiro Koizumi on Thursday. The stated focus of the meeting was strengthening defence and security cooperation and enhancing strategic trust in the Indo-Pacific.
India’s Ministry of Defence stated that the two ministers were likely to exchange views on deeper maritime security cooperation, closer collaboration on defence equipment and technology under the Make in India framework, and identification of new collaboration areas leading to a roadmap for advancing bilateral defence and security ties.
India’s Ministry of Defence also indicated that the ministers were expected to consider Japan’s revision of its Three Principles on Transfer of Defence Equipment and Technology.
What Shinjiro Koizumi did during his first visit to India
Japan’s defence minister Shinjiro Koizumi visited the Western Naval Command in Mumbai, held discussions with naval officials, and visited the indigenously built guided-missile destroyer INS Chennai.
