What happened (CBI arrest and allegations)
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Ankit, identified as a person associated with an agent network, in Delhi. The CBI alleges that Ankit’s network was involved in human trafficking of Indian nationals to scam compounds in Southeast Asia.
The CBI alleged that victims were lured with promises of lucrative overseas employment. The CBI’s allegation further states that in 2025 Ankit sent at least four people from Hisar into these scam compounds.
The CBI alleged coercive conditions linked to return home. The CBI stated that some victims had to pay substantial amounts to secure the ability to return. The CBI also alleged that some victims were forced to lure replacements, as a condition for being able to go back.

Human trafficking networks commonly operate through intermediaries. Victims may be recruited through job offers or travel assurances. After victims reach the destination, trafficking operators often use coercion such as threats, restriction of movement, or demands for money to control victims’ ability to exit.
