India will launch its official campaign for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2028–29 on July 13.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who is traveling in the Gulf, is expected to reach New York on July 10 for a ceremonial event crucial to India’s leadership ambitions in the Global South.
India’s bid for the Asia-Pacific seat will require significant diplomacy because Tajikistan is the competing candidate, having secured support from the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) bloc comprising 57 UN member states.
