Revathy and Padmapriya resign from AMMA, citing patriarchy and power politics after Hema Committee discourse

Malayalam film actors Revathy and Padmapriya have resigned from the primary membership of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA). They said their decision was not sudden and was not tied to a single incident.

In their joint statement, they argued that the association’s long-standing promise—centering on safer workplaces, dignity, accountability, and equal treatment—has not been fulfilled. They described a pattern where those raising concerns face silence and distance.

The actors connected their resignation to the broader attention created after the release of the Hema Committee report on problems faced by women in the Malayalam film industry. They stated that resignations were essentially a refusal to remain tied to institutions that avoid accountability once public attention fades.
