What happened

A policeman deployed for Amarnath Yatra duty was shot dead at close range by terrorists in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district. The officer was identified as Head Constable Ashiq Hussain of the 3rd Battalion, India Reserve Police.

The attack took place near Lal Chowk on the Anantnag-Kokernag road. Police later launched a major search operation across Kashmir and detained around 1,200 suspects.
