DU faces backlash for statement on protests

What happened
The Democratic Teachers’ Front criticised Delhi University for a social-media statement on the student agitation at Jantar Mantar. The teachers’ body said the university expressed understanding for student pain and asked for calm so that students could focus on their studies and future, but the response did not address the violence faced by students.
The Democratic Teachers’ Front also objected to Delhi University’s phrase ‘vested interests’. The teachers’ body said the wording was used to delegitimise a large protest movement.
UPSC can use the dispute to test how public universities balance administrative order, freedom of expression, and engagement with student concerns. A mains answer can examine whether institutional statements should only maintain calm or also address allegations of violence and legitimacy of protest.
