Nationwide protests over the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) issue escalated into direct Congress–Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) confrontations across several states. The escalation followed the forcible removal of Opposition leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, from a sit-in outside the Prime Minister’s residence, and it brought together three connected themes: student anger over examination irregularities, political mobilisation, and law-and-order management.
What happened now
Party leaders and workers in multiple states tried to march toward each other’s offices, and police stopped many of those processions. The resulting stand-offs produced detentions, barricading, and clashes in several cities.
UPSC can frame the NEET agitation as an issue of institutional accountability in examination administration, management of dissent under democratic norms, and maintenance of public order when political parties convert a student grievance into street confrontation.
