What happened
A Samajwadi Party delegation met the Rampur District Magistrate and asked for the demolition order against 38 of the 40 buildings at Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University to be withdrawn. The delegation was led by the Samajwadi Party's Leader of Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly and submitted a memorandum backed by 45 party MLAs.
Congress state chief Ajay Rai separately asked the Governor of Uttar Pradesh to intervene and cancel the order. Ajay Rai said the decision had worried students, teachers, parents, and others in the education sector.
