The Taliban administration in Afghanistan has sought deeper agricultural cooperation with India. The engagement matters because India is dealing with Afghanistan without formal diplomatic recognition, yet it continues practical contacts on food security, humanitarian relief and farm-related cooperation.
What happened
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Afghanistan’s Agriculture Minister Ataullah Omari visited India for six days and discussed expanding cooperation in trade, infrastructure, irrigation, food processing, capacity building and bilateral exchange in agri-products.
The discussions also covered food security, seed systems, crop productivity and climate-resilient, bio-fortified crop varieties.
Institutions and meetings
Ataullah Omari met Indian ministers handling agriculture, rural development and food processing. He also held discussions with NABARD, ICAR, IARI, and industry bodies such as FICCI and PHDCCI.
