What happened: NABARD-backed digitisation for cooperative bank governance and supervision
NABARD introduced cooperative governance and supervisory reforms supported by digital platforms to make governance measurable and supervision more structured for cooperative banks. The focus includes the Cooperative Governance Index (CGI) for Regional Cooperative Banks (RCBs), an enhanced CAMELSC framework for supervision, and SuperSoft as a digital supervisory platform for inspection and compliance tracking.
Key components announced by NABARD
1) Cooperative Governance Index (CGI) portal for RCBs
NABARD developed the Cooperative Governance Index (CGI) to assess, quantify, and benchmark governance standards for cooperative banks. The CGI is supported by a digital portal with dashboards and role-based access. The CGI portal for RCBs went live on 01 April 2026.
The CGI approach is designed to support governance that is measurable, comparable, and monitorable, and to help supervisors take targeted remedial action for banks identified with weak governance.
