What happened

The All IITs Placement Committee has decided to remove JEE ranks and GATE scores/percentiles from standard placement resumes. The Hindu op-ed supports the decision and argues that recruiters should judge graduates by their current capabilities, not by entrance-test performance from years earlier.

Background and earlier position

Admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology relies heavily on high-stakes examinations such as JEE. The op-ed says recruiters often used entrance rank as a shortcut measure of capability in placement screening, even though the rank reflects only one day of testing.

What changed now

Standard placement resumes will no longer carry entrance-rank indicators. The op-ed says recruiters already have better screening tools: CGPA/CPI thresholds, technical interviews, coding tests, case discussions, design tasks, project reviews, research work, communication assessments, and behavioural evaluations.
