Inaugural Index of Services Production shows 14 sectors grew in double digits in April
India has begun a trial Index of Services Production and a Delhi High Court hearing has pressed WAPCOS on its finances in a regularisation dispute.

What happened
India has released an inaugural trial Index of Services Production (ISP) as a counterpart to the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). The first release covers April 2026 and reports that 14 of 19 measured service sub-sectors recorded double-digit growth.
The best-performing sub-sectors cited are accommodation and food services, retail trade, administrative and support services, and real estate. The trial index is intended to strengthen India’s statistical system and improve measurement of the services economy, which accounts for more than half of economic activity.

The WAPCOS hearing can be used to discuss judicial scrutiny of public sector undertakings, regularisation disputes, and the need for documentary proof in administrative claims.
