What happened
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said the Centre was delaying restoration of Statehood by repeatedly citing an undefined “appropriate time”. He said the National Conference had chosen patience, but that patience was being pushed towards a protest at Jantar Mantar on 20 July.
Abdullah made these remarks at a gathering held on the death anniversary of Begum Akbar Jehan Abdullah. He also alleged that delimitation was carried out only in Jammu and Kashmir and Assam to benefit one party and weaken democracy.
Abdullah further claimed that the Bharatiya Janata Party was trying to destabilise his government by offering money and ministerial posts to National Conference legislators. BJP leader Ashok Koul rejected the charge as baseless and said it reflected internal problems within the National Conference.
